“Seeking Hot Springs” is a new theme of our travels. And this has been our favorite hot spring to date. Ojo Caliente Mineral Springs and Resort feels like you are stepping back in time… to when hippies abound and being Zen was a major life goal. It helps to leave the hustle and bustle behind as you explore this resort and its healing waters. Whether folklore or truth this is worth getting off the beaten path and checking it out or checking out may be more like it. The resort lies 90 minutes southwest of Taos, NM, one hour north of Santa Fe and in the middle of nowhere. The spa is it, but that has its perks, especially great star gazing.
One benefit of these springs is that they are sulfur free, so no rotten egg smell. Instead, the springs are rich in lithia, arsenic, iron, and soda. I get the lithium, sounds relaxing, don’t quite understand the arsenic, but everyone else seemed OK, so I dove right in.
The property features 12 pools, all with a unique vibe. Our room even had a private outdoor bathtub that filled with the spring waters on demand by an old fashion pump/spicket.
Perfect place to view the desert skies before you slip inside to sit by your adobe fireplace or climb into bed on an uber comfortable mattress. There is one restaurant on site and no town. So just book and stay as long as you want to soak, and hike, and enjoy all sorts of lovely treatments at the spa. So, like a lifetime. May the Zen be with you!
