Our first hike since launching the new rig was short but steep. Time to get this Christmas bod in shape and slope ready. FDR Designated the park July 3, 1936. I enjoy history of the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) having an ancestor who served in the CCC. Shenandoah’s history boasts the first national park to host the CCC. The 10,000 CCC boys, who lived and worked in Shenandoah National Park from 1933 – 1942 built visitor centers, picnic grounds, trails and much of the infrastructure visitors still rely on. Can you imagine 10,000 boys in one camp? It was a volunteer program for unemployed, unmarried men between ages 18 and 25. Must have been wild!
