One of the most fascinating and eerie stories from the Wilderness Road Regional Museum: pictured here are Angel Crowns found in the area. Angel Crowns are wrought with Appalachian Folklore. Angel Crowns (aka Death Crowns) are a swirl of feathers that have been found in the pillow of a person who had just expired on it. If found it is believed the deceased person was already heaven-bound. Families in the area would search the feather pillows of the deceased searching for this sign. If found, these became treasured relics. It would even be listed in someone’s obituary, just to ensure everyone knows their loved one got a ticket straight to heaven. April, the docent, said she set these in the display herself and that a puff of air could displace them.
